Radley Lakes are Here to Stay

Good news that the Northmoor Trust will now manage Thrupp Lake, and that its future is now secure.

Bullfield Lake, next door, looks quite unaffected by the campaign that has been waged between nPower and Save Radley Lakes.

This other lake got filled in with ash from Didcot Power Station a few years ago.

They began as gravel pits but over the years Bullfield Lake and Thrupp Lake became established lakes with wildlife.

South Abingdon Arts Project - second visit

The South Abingdon Arts Project are painting the wall at Gainsborough Green this Half Term break.

Previous sessions were over Easter at the Family Centre, and at the NET youth centre on Thursday evenings.

Some large paintings and a mosaic dedication board have been created for display here. Saturday, 6th June, from 2.00pm onwards will see an afternoon celebrating the completion of this project.

Goodbye 35A, Hello X2

By this time next week there will no longer be a 35A bus. From Sunday it will be replaced by the X2.

Notices at the stops say "Buses on route 35A... will be replaced by new city X2 running direct between Oxford and Abingdon via the A34 and Oxford Road... "

The 35A has long been the bus connecting South Abingdon with the world beyond. It follows a circuitous route through Radley and Kennington to Oxford, or to Milton Park and Didcot.

The new X2 will be a direct route to Oxford - something South Abingdon has long needed. The bus also continues to go to Didcot for people needing Milton Park, Didcot Power Station, or Didcot Girls School.

New timetables for the X2, and re-timed 35, were available on the bus for the first time today, and from the oxford bus company website. Regarding the 35, which still follows the old route from Abingdon to Oxford via Radley, notices say "... delays will be reduced because there will be no knock-on effect from south of Abingdon."

Second Lives

This skip of junk once sat outside the Kings Head and Bell.

Some of the contents are now part of a Children's Art Exhibition, not far from Abingdon at Sutton Courtney Abbey.

A Hippo has been made from a Vacuum Cleaner, and an Elephant from a bent gas pipe.

Just be careful what you throw out in case it comes back to bite you!!!

Blue Sky

Two days of blue sky.

Everyone went down to the River on Saturday and Sunday. The Open Air Pool was packed. People were swimming in the Thames.

And on Bank Holiday Monday... A cloudy start but the sun is coming through.

Colmar Choir - De Si De La

First time I've been up on the museum roof this year. Adrienne, a well know face in Abingdon, was on roof duty.

Down below on the Market Place there was a huddle of people dressed in black.

It was the Choir from Colmar - De Si De La, over on a twinning visit, and promoting their Abingdon concerts.

John send a picture of 'De Si De La' , rehearsing at St Michael's yesterday.
