Some of the People on the Market Place Today


Ruth Cross is seen here handing out leaflets to let people know about Abingdon Heritage Open Day - next Saturday.

Abingdon Concert Band were playing.

There were three different charity stalls. This one is raising money for a Community Centre in Brixton, South London.

And here are Ken Clarke who has never been Mayor of Abingdon as far as I know and Peter Spooner who was Mayor back in the 1980s.

And Muriel Fraser selling prints of original paintings, and photographs of Abingdon. All proceeds to charity. Let me know if I got anybodies name wrong. I'm hopeless with names.

I did go inside to ask whether there were any interesting historical features I could photograph...

and was told the building was the real history.

Brown Signs from the A34


Millets Farm Centre was once just a Pick Your Own Farm and has expanded to do many things.

All the way down the A34 Millets Farm Centre has these Brown Signs. They imply it is the tourist destination in these parts.

They direct you at this point away from Abingdon not towards Abingdon.

Mayor's Fishing Competition


The Mayor's Fishing Competition took place during Bank Holiday Monday Morning. This follows a junior competition on Saturday. During my walk past I saw mostly small fish landed.

I was told there were plenty of Roach about.
..............
On the subject of fish I was sent a picture by Michal taken at the weir a couple of weeks ago.

He asked me what it was and what it had died of. So I am throwing that one to the experts out there.

Coseners House


Cosener's House and the view back across the Mill Stream.

The stable block created or re-created only back in 2005.

And the view through the rafters.

Finally Cosener's Houses itself. A place for conferences, weddings, meals and hospitality. It took it's name from the Cosener, that is the Cuisinier or Kitchener (the official responsible for providing food for the Abbey). It is owned by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), formed in 2007, following the merger of the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council and some other august scientific Council.
