Retro Fair Returns to Guildhall

Ruby’s Vintage & Retro Fair was back at the Guildhall yesterday.

There was a lady doing retro hair styling. There was also lots of retro clothes for the ladies, fewer for the men – most that had stood the test of time.

Old schoolroom posters were on sale. The attraction of retro fairs is that we can see and buy objects that remind us of younger days, whether that be the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s.

The retro fair will be back twice more in 2014.

Didn’t know it was on !! but may have been distracted by the news that the Parasol Chinese restaurant was raided by imigration officials and three of its staff were “taken away” for being suspected illegal imigrants !

I hadn’t heard it was on either? Another good piece of advertising by Guildhall event organisers? It doesn’t bode well for when new cinema/theatre is in there trying to make ends meet?! No-one will know what’s showing?!

Guys – can you hold off the criticism when you dont have the facts.

The vintage fair books a room in the guildhall but manages its own advertising – nothing to do with the guildhall itself.

Having said that, it seemed fairly well advertised to me, i drove past a massive banner on the corner of ock st and drayton rd last night and certainly seems to have been well attended.

It looks a very interesting event. I would have liked to have gone along but did not hear about it. The Abingdon Herald said that the restaurant could be fined £30,000 for employing illegal immigrants. Not that they should worry. Apparently only one third of fines are actually paid so 2/3rd do not pay and get away with it.

George and Julian – the best source of info for the big events of this kind is http://www.abingdon.gov.uk/events – they are all advertised on there – including this one! If you prefer the blog approach there are various Facebook pages run by different groups and aimed at different audiences – take your pick.

Parasol was ‘unusually’ closed yesterday lunchtime with an equally ‘unusual’ hand written notice in the window saying FULLY BOOKED TONIGHT. Mmm

One of my favourite restaurants … hope they do ok.

And yup, I missed the Retro Fair too … 🙁

It’s bad enough that those who use illegal immigrants in their work force avoid paying NI stamps, Tax etc and the Illegal immigrant, by their very nature, pay no tax of NI contributions, but no doubt use all the benifits of a welfare state and if all of this is not bad enough, the next time you’re in the place eating your Pekin Duck just remember that the majority of this type of employer treat their staff little better than dogs ! I hope he gets sued for every ill gotten penny he’s made ! Sorry for sounding off, BUT.

I didn’t realise this blog existed! Thank you for your kind words about Ruby’s Vintage & Retro Fair. Happy that some of you found us, unhappy that some of you didn’t!

We are back at the Guildhall on Saturday 13th September 2014 and Saturday 29th November 2014

We have the same lovely lady doing vintage makeovers and the same great mix of vintage and retro items. Hope to see you there
