Bath Street – this summer

Bath Street Needs some TLC
Bath Street is the one shopping street in the town centre that has not yet been repaved, although the flower beds at one end, and the war memorial at the other have seen improvements.

At the further end of the street shops like Marie and Masons have many followers, but some of the businesses in the middle of the street do not seem to have fared so well.
Bath Street Needs some TLC
The florist has closed, and last week, to add insult to injury, somebody went on the rampage and broke their shop window, and those of some other Bath Street shops.

Next door, was once a well known letting agency, which has not been re-let. Now, there is a planning application to create more accommodation at the rear of this shop and above. Flats do work and bring in money.

But it is to be hoped, once the nearby precinct work has been completed, that increased customer footfall will benefit Bath Street.

Java Development in Central Abingdon

Java Development in Central Abingdon
Water has been flowing at the bottom end of Stert Street for a couple of days now – not caused by rain but a leak. Beyond it I see that Coffee Republic has changed to become Java & Co.

Java Development in Central Abingdon
I Googled “Java Abingdon” to find more details but only came up with Java Developer Job opportunities in Abingdon.

The Java programming language runs so many computer applications nowadays, but took its name from a slang term for coffee.

Coffee will still be served at Java & Co.

Abingdon Toy Shop to close

Toy Shop Closing
In four days time a toy shop in Abingdon is to close. From what I can tell their other four branches, including the one at Didcot, are doing OK. The toy shop opened three years ago but trading conditions cannot be easy with work ongoing in the Abbey Shopping Centre.

Best wishes to them, and hope to see them, or another toy shop, in Abingdon before too long.

Not in the Fat Elephant

Where is Wally
I hope Mostly Books archive the posters that appear in their window. They make an interesting history of Whats been On in Abingdon since 2006.

There is Wife after Death by the Abingdon Drama Club this week, and Yeah Baby 4. The Glorious Art of Peace, and The Lost Forest of Bernwood is next.
Where is Wally
Round the other side of Mostly Books I see “It’s been 25 years. Have you found Wally Yet”

Wally is to be found in a number of shops in town as part of a competition running this month. For example …
Where is Wally
Wally’s making lovely things on Bath Street, but not in the ‘Fat Elephant’. Where might he be?
