Lack of retail sales high shop rent and rates is what is closing shops and leaving them closed . The landlords are not silly if they can make profit from selling their units to developers and make money they will . We have now closed our shop and i would not recommend anyone opening a shop in this town as you will be bankrupt within a year not even Cargo survived here they closed twice . There are many shops currently for sale which are trading once a developer is found these shops will close . There are still nobody going in the new units so we have had lots of disruption shops going out of business for what NOTHING ! . The council has got to halve the rates now not tomorrow otherwise more shops will shut it has been in the newspapers and on the news regarding rates what has the council done NOTHING don’t they understand it makes more sense to halve the rates and get something than to let shops close and get nothing .

I haven’t noticed any shops in town that have closed recently, i think it’s a really vibrant time for the town at the moment, new pubs opening, new shops soon to open, a shinny new precinct that looks really nice,

And as far as i’m aware cargo were only ever on a year lease and poundland is on a rolling monthly lease,

How many times does it have to be said that ‘the council’ (there are three by the way) are not responsible for setting the rates!

George – there’s a sign in “Beyond Bubbles” saying ‘Shop to let’…not sure thogh if that is because they’re closing down…or morning to bigger premises!?

I understand that Beyond Bubbles is continuing to trade – she is doing very well at the local excellence and craft markets, and by selling her products through other outlets (eg National Trust shops). However she does not get enough customers into the shop to make it worthwhile keeping on.
She is planning to expand the internet side of the business – and is collecting email addresses from regular customers.
I will really miss the shop – but wish her every success in the future!
