Coronavirus Lockdown Day 15 – In This Together

Coronavirus Lockdown Day 15
I started the day with the first shop at Waitrose since the start of the lockdown. Normally I go in there every other day.

The queue was well spaced out. We waited a few minutes in the sunshine and then were politely given a wiped trolley. Stocks of food were much better than before the lockdown

At home there was a letter from the UK Government and a leaflet explaining the lockdown rules.

I saw this ‘in This Together‘ poster in one window, which I thought was an excellent slogan.

Our exercise walk took us down Peep O Day Lane. They have not finished the work but the cycle path has been opened during a pause in work.

There was some nice pink blossom on South Quay.

The view to St Helen’s Wharf looked much the same, but on the River Thames there were just birds and no boats, not even rowing boats.

On Radio 4, this morning, they said there was to be a Pink Moon, but that it would not be really pink.

Today is the trial run for the AbiMeds scheme for bulk collection and delivery of prescriptions for people. The scheme is for anyone, not just the vulnerable or self-isolating – queuing puts everyone at risk and increases the risk to pharmacy staff.
The team want it to be a real test so would like anyone who has a prescription to collect from Boots or Jhoots today to phone one of their dedicated lines which will be open from 08.30 to 14.30.
    The numbers are: 07384 560269 and 07384 560851

NB – The Freewheelers cycling delivery team are organising the deliveries and are happy to do some longer rides, so as well as Abingdon itself they can cover Culham, Sutton Courtenay, Drayton, Marcham, Shippon and Wootton

The trial only covers Boots and Jhoots pharmacies but it is hoped to extend it to others when the scheme starts properly next week.

We hope to extend to other pharmacies in the future.

    Thanks for the information, Hester.

Thanks, too, the Freewheelers team. There will be many who find this a godsend.

Thank you, Hester for the information. Very helpful. I wonder if there is any way of keeping up with Information about the scheme once the trial is over. By choice, I’m not on social media.

R – yes absolutely. We know that many of the people we want to reach won’t be on social media so once we have specific details to publish we will get some longer-term information out there. For those who use the internet it will be on lots of websites; we also hope that pharmacies will let us put posters up so that people who come to collect will see that there is an alternative. We will also tell other agencies who have helplines, such as Citizens Advice, Age UK, the Councils, Good Neighbour Scheme etc etc.
Sadly, general posters aren’t much use at present since most people can’t get out to see them!

What a total waste of money sending a letter out to every household. The ones breaking the restrictions are so stupid I doubt they can or will read it

Backstreeter – You should not be going to waitrose every other day. We should be minimising our shopping visit to as few as possible. Super.arkets are one of the most high risk environments for most people

AbMarina, you should read with a view to comprehension ….

backstreeter wrote that normally he went to Waitrose every other day,, but THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME HE’D BEEN THERE SINCE THE START OF THE LOCKDOWN … that’s the first time in about three weeks … what was difficult to understand about that?

I think you just made a self-reichteousness misfire

    Hi Newcomer,

Re-reading the post it does look like I mis-read it. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

The tone and content of my advice was measured and correct. Your response is more like something I would expect to find in the comments section of the daily mail.

When is ‘look like’ a valid substitute for ‘did’, as in ‘I did mis-read’, AbMarina? If it’s a duck then it’s a duck …. there’s a lot of ducks who aren’t ostriches in the Marina so get some practise in identifying ducks.

The daily mail? What is this ‘daily mail, AbMarina? You seem to know a lot about it. How did you gain this expertise? Does it take many years of study?
