The Northcourt Centre in Abingdon had an open afternoon for community groups who use the centre to show off their activities. Drastic Plastic were doing craft activities, reccyling plastic into art works.
like these elephants with trunks made from milk bottle handles.
Inside you could make cranes from squares of paper on the Abingdon Peace Group stall. You can see how on this youtube video. Back in 2010 featured on this blog 1200+ crane were made at the Community Shop in Abingdon to send to Hiroishima, where they were displayed.
There were lots of other displays and performances by users of the centre, including the Abbey Quilters.
It was a well attended afternoon and all enjoyed watching the ballet demonstrations by budding ballerinas taught by a very experienced ballet tutor and getting enthused by the wonderful quilts, etc created by the amazing quilting group.
The Abingdon Artists, the Archeological Society, the Flower club, Fitzharries and Peachcroft W.Is, Yoga, MS Society, Indoor Bowls, Stagecoach and Taekwando all helped inform and entertain those attending.
Of course we couldn’t have done without the delicious home baked cakes kindly donated by user groups and cups of tea served with a smile by the experienced tea ladies.
The afternoon ended with a roll of the raffle tickets drum and some lucky winners went away with unexpected booty again donated by user groups. So a big thank you to you all.
We have to thank Brewers the paint company for kindly donating the exterior paint for the Centre and Drastic Plastic workshop which encouraged a few youngsters and some adults (Brownie troop leaders no less), to get their creative hats on to make plastic elephants and flowers from plastic bottles – good job everyone – it raised a smile on everyone walking past the tables with the colourful displays of flowers and elephants.
I can feel a plastic elephant craze coming to Abingdon if the Brownies have their way and start sharing their skills!!
Also a big thank you to:
The Community Fund;
Tesco Bags for Life and
Brewers Paints
for their donations to help towards the Centre’s maintenance costs.
So thank you ABINGDON BLOG for including us. Hope you join us in future events.
