Steve sent me this picture with the question ‘Is Reeves no More?’ The Reeves family ran this fish and chip shop in Ock Street up to about the 1980s. Over the road was Ruddocks – now Pizza Hut.
This business has been Salami’s Fish Bar since the 1990s. There are older pictures of Fish and Chip shops in Ock Street on Facebook – Spotted Abingdon.
There was a notice in the window before it close saying they were going to refurbish it and open again in March (can’t remember the date)
Salamis did the best fish and chips in Abingdon. It was reasonably easy to park near too.
My family ate from there about 10 years ago. We were up all night sick from suspected food poisoning. Never went back
what a shame, used them so many times over the years – they had a built in audience with that tower block thing across the road from them.
We were staunch Ruddocks supporters …
I thought I read somewhere about a month ago it is being refurbished.
Although I used it frequently, I just looked up the score on the door – only a 1 which is shocking, could this be why they shut?
My partner and I were ill the last time we got food from salami’s! We never returned after that
The new(ish) fish and chip shop by the war memorial I have always found very good.
Certainly the best f/c in Abingdon, and colossal portions! Certainly never had any bad experiences (although sometimes the ladies serving were a bit grumpy) but very sorry if it has closed and hope it reopens soon. Good luck to them…
Salamis fish bar is under refurbishment, same owners just a new look and a new name opening soon.
You need to re-blog this or at least update the headline as it comes up in Google with an adverse and unfair headline- It was only closed for refurbishment and I’m delighted they’ve reverted to the original name. I’ve been a customer for nearly 40 years and it’s always been the best chippy in Abingdon. i think that’s because they have a policy of frying most things to order so you never get anything that’s dried up or left over from a previous shift.
