First snow of winter in Abingdon

There were a couple of flurries of heavy snow in Abingdon this afternoon, the first snow of winter.

Just to warn people. On Monday morning a woman had her purse stolen in Abingdon. She was distraught as she had no money and her bank cards and bus pass had gone. The thieves are very clever as victims do not know that their purses have been stolen until they have to pay for something. The Police could do more to warn people. They say they have a web site but the occasional appearance in public with information about the prevelance of this crime would be helpful and bring peoples attention to it. Abingdon seems to be a popular place for purse thieves. My friend who is 80 had hers stolen in a charity shop in Abingdon

Lets hope that they get a strongly worded emai land a slap on the wrist and asked, if it is OK, that they please do not do it again.

162 instances each more than £10,000! That’s a minimum of £1.6M, and could well be more than £2M.

If we handed out £1 every minute, non-stop, day and night, it would take about twenty-three and half months to dole out a million. That’s a long time and a lot of cash. Meanwhile, apparently we are soon going to get £350 million a week (about 65 year’s worth of one pound a minute) as a result of our departure from the EU.

    Who believes this stuff?

Well isn’t that a surprise! Nudge nudge wink wink no what I mean guv ! Or the term greasy Palm Springs to mind! Seriously though is this revelation really a surprise? For years members of the public have been Aghast at some of the obviously skewed decisions that have come from council, Old Gaol, Shopping Precinct. Morland Garden etc etc, I just hope, no insist the officers who have not followed protocol and have cost tax payers millions because of bad decisions will not only be removed from their post but will face procecution !

I wonder how long it’ll be before Santander leaves Abingdon, the Didcot branch closes July 4th, Henley-On-Thames lose theirs this Summer also. So maybe next year or the year after for ours then? £5 to travel to Oxford to do some banking, I think I might lose the Abbey habit quite quickly faced with that.

Badger, with all those outgoings saved by shutting branches just think how much more interest they’ll be able to pay you!

One assumes they are closing all because of BREXIT?

Daniel – It’s not Brexit that’s to blame this time but our old friend ‘footfall’ caused by the staff bluntly and repeatedly suggesting that customers use the Internet… they’ve certainly succeeded in convincing less people to visit the branch and give head office the ultimate excuse to streamline the business. It would be interesting to see what the figures are for new customers and business in areas where branches have closed when other banks with a physical presence still exist.
