It is goodbye (Sunday 23rd December 2018) to Rosie’s Tea Room after eight years of good tea and scone service to the people of Abingdon, and visitors. Rosie’s Tea Room took over the premises in West St Helen Street previously used by Frugal Food.
It was not just a tea room but also provided evening entertainment such as knit and natter, pudding nights, and small performances without a microphone. The current proprietors were planning to hand over Rosie’s tea pots to somebody else but it appears the landlord has another better offer for the premises to become a restaurant.
(2nd picture from Rosie’s Facebook page where there are over 131 comments from people about the closure).
What a pity! We have a number of Coffee Shops in Abingdon but Rosie`s was special- as it was a proper Tea Shop
Real shame. Great service, great prices and a homely feel that you can’t get in bloody Costa!
I am so upset that Rosie`s is no more. It was my favorite spot on my many visits to Abingdon. I live in New York and always looked forward to my tea and scones, the lovely atmosphere and the vintage American pop songs playing.
How could this happen?!!! Bring back Rosie`s! There is no other place like it. It enhanced the charm of Abingdon. There are already plenty of fine restaurants, but nothing like Rosie`s. What a loss to the community. I am so disappointed.
