Abingdon Town Magazine

Abingdon Town Magazine
Edition One of Abingdon Town Magazine popped through the letter box of every home in Abingdon a few weeks ago. It is a wonderful magazine for local stories and content. A lot of magazines and local newspapers have some local content but are filled out with more general information. Abingdon Town Magazine is all about Abingdon.
Abingdon Town Magazine
There was a visit for a meal to the Limoncello restaurant.
Abingdon Town Magazine
There was an article about authentic Polish food on our doorstep, with four polish recipes from Polski Sklep Żubr, and an article about Aunt Sally, the local pub stick and skittle game.
Abingdon Town Magazine
There was an interview with John North of Masons, and My Abingdon by Matt Heritage of the Brewery Tap. And lots more.

I look forward to the next edition.

I hope this excellent magazine is distributed far and wide – everyone needs to know what a lovely town Abingdon is and all the good things that happen here.

I agree – much better than some of the other magazines we have had from time to time.
Interestingly, I have been told that part at least of the funding came from the BID. Before they came along, Choose Abingdon used to help fund this sort of thing. I wonder where the money to promote Abingdon – to local people, not just tourists – will come from now.

Not through our door either… But a good idea though none the less…

    Missed a trick though; surely “Abingd-ON”. “A river, A town, Aspire”…

Looks good. But I haven’t had one – south Abingdon. Anyone know who was responsible/paid for distribution?

Looks like South Abingdon is not part of the distribution area. Let’s hope someone from the magazine’s team reads this blog and gets some copies to us.

Not got it here in N Abingdon either. Perhaps it was just the centre or if your name began A-K or something.

Thankyou for the comments about our magazine. The feedback from residents and businesses has been magnificent .
Our distribution was by the Royal Mail and all of OX14 in all postcode sectors was ordered and paid for . Mill Street ( one of the streets mentioned ) should have received a copy so please could you double check as we would hate to get the postman into trouble if it has simply been overlooked . Thankyou to Abingdon Blog for your kind words and look out for the next issue or take a look at our Facebook page :Abingdon Town Magazine .

traders were approached but not told that the bid was paying the postage,£2400 per issue, the publishers representative initially denied any connection with the bid until questioning revealled that the bid manager had instigated the deal even tho she had subsequently resigned. This was then taken on by the bid chairperson despite the fact that 102 traders had signed a petition to close the bid, so was bid money used to fund the postage or not and if so under whos authority

It certainly makes all the work we do worth it. Please check out our facebook page @abingdontownmag to keep up with the latest articles, events and campaigns and I will have a thorough read through the comments when I get a moment and get back to any queries you may have. Kind regards.

How can I stop receiving the Abingdon Town Magazine? It is not read in our household so every issue goes straight in the bin.

Abingdon has been going steadily downhill over the years as businesses have closed in the town centre, money wasted on a shopping centre facelift where there is now little shelter from the weather, there is still no hope of an additional river crossing, we see no progress on the promised Lodge Hill junction improvements and buildings have been erected on what was declared to be green belt land.

Things have come to a head this month (2019 edition 6) in our household with the cover headline of your published rag that we feel is most offensive and inappropriate. We believe Abingdon should not be openly supporting gay pride events and are not alone in not wanting to be associated with such publicity.

    Dear ‘Rallier’,

My name is Toby and I’m the editor of the Abingdon Town Magazine. It’s disappointing that you feel this way about Abingdon but I suppose it confirms that it’s far easier to complain about ‘decline’ than it is to enact positive change.

It’s also much easier to be homophobic on an anonymous message board. If you’d like to put your name to your opinions then by all means drop me a line and I’d be happy to have a discussion with you about LGBT rights.

In the meantime, I’m afraid we can’t take you off its distribution as this is controlled by a third party. Also, if you are going to immediately dispose of our ‘rag’ I would urge you to do so in a recycling bin.

    Yours,

    Toby

Would you like to justify why you believe the town should not be supporting the LGBT community? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts why Abingdon shouldn’t be inclusive and show equality to its residents.
