Egg and Spoon Races

Egg and Spoon Races
Paul Gustafson, the author of Eggbert’s aventures, devised a special day of Egg and Spoon Racing for Easter Saturday. Visit Abingdon (The BID) helped organise the event.
Egg and Spoon Races
There were races throughout the day starting with 4-6 year olds at 11:00.

The winners of that were presented by Eggbert with medals and an Easter Egg.

There followed a variety of other races including the army cadets’s crawling egg and spoon race.

At 12:00 was the race for 7-9 year olds, and then other age categories. The final race was for big folk over 65 at 15:00, and a special run by Paul Gustaffson with an enormous egg and spoon.

The event was very popular with young families who needed something to keep their children occupied in the middle of the Easter holidays. There were also bouncy castles, donkeys from the donkey sanctuary, welly wanging, puddle jumping, an obstacle race, painting and crafts, and free fruit.

Went down in the afternoon and it was all being packed up. What happened? More of the Bid’s ‘organisation’?

Can we have donkeys in the market place permanently instead of flagpoles? That would be so cool and one up on Didcot. Perhaps we could have gay donkeys!

Talking about Didcot. Someone close to the council tells me that the TC are going to lease the Guildhall to Didcot Town Council and they will manage it as Cornerstone 2. It would be nice to have someone professional on the case.

Newcomer – the Cornerstone is run by the Vale, not Didcot TC, and they also run the Beacon in Wantage which looks to be reasonably well-used. Your rumour would make more sense if it was referring to the Vale…..

Kelly, I think the event was advertised as finishing at 4pm,

Visited in the morning, stalls having problems with power, running on generators to heat an urn of hot water for coffee.
