Half Term – Playground Progress

Play equipment
Children going to the Abbey Meadows this half term may not be able to play in the play ground.
Play equipment
But it is very exciting seeing the new equipment being constructed, and watching the big diggers.

Fort looks really good, reminds me of the one I used to play in in Hazelhead park in Aberdeen – looks a good addition for the next generation of Abingdonians 🙂

It will be nice for the children this summer. I have been getting rid of some growth by the kerbside where I live in South Abingdon as the council will not do it any more. The growth traps litter and rubbish. I have discovered that people are cleaning up their dogs mess and putting it in plastic bags and then leaving the bags by the kerbside. It is utterly disgusting. I have not seen a dog mess bin in South Abingdon but I thought that they took these bags home with them and put them in the bin. Apparently not. I have seen references to people leaving these bags in trees etc. It is worse than picking up the mess in the first place.

Every time I see any mention of dog poo in bags hanging in trees or hedges, I want someone who does it to explain why. Surely picking it up is the least pleasant bit so why oh why does it get left? Someone, please tell me…

Sorry folks, but has anyone else read this weeks Abingdon Herald? It makes for depressing and confusing reading.
First you have Ian banging on about the lost opportunity regarding to Guild hall refit, then there’s a report of vandalism in the multi story car park where a classic car and four more were damaged and police said there are four suspects but no arrests, then we have a centre page spread on all the Vales property bebarkles, Guild hall, old Abbey House, Upoer Reaches, Tilley Park etc, then we find there’s no funds available to create the lodge hill diamond because OCC cocked up the funding application but at the time have committed £3 million to a park and ride scheme from Witney to Oxford (a sweetener no doubt something to do with west Ox dc refusing to back OCC’s unitary council plan) new plans backed by OCC to create Didcot garden city, and so it goes on, do we have the plague in Abingdon?

And now I’ve just read that plans are afoot to sell off St Aldates police station! Enough really is enough, our roads are falling to bits ( Stert street that was completely rebuild less than a decade ago is appalling) our pavements are broken, the road sides and verges are a disgrace, our care system doesn’t work, building is out of control, and the only thing we can be sure of is we will continue to be poorly served!
If it wasn’t for family commitments I’d been out of here asap!

There are three dedicated dog poo bins that I am aware of in South Abingdon (hopefully there are more!)…two in Ock meadow, and one beside the River Ock at the Drayton Road end, just before the bridge.

There is also a bin that is both for litter and dog poo at the back of the Ock Street flats, next to the children’s play area.

This doesn’t stop people either leaving the mess lying around, or bagging it and slinging it into the trees.

I agree with Rebecca – picking it up is surely the worst part. Once you’ve done that, why not just bin it?

The economy is going to be growing at a slower rate, good will cost a little more, as we import many things, so there is less money for all the things that are very very important, like healthcare, clean streets, diamond interchages, cinemas, clean streets , straight pavements, dog bins being empties, clear verges. So yep BREXIT does affect things, but that’s been decided now , and I assume everyone who voted to leave knew this , hence why they voted to leave. I’m expecting a 5% rise in council tax, as all these things are important and need to be paid for somehow.

Aby don, I think most tax paying, voting members of the public are aware of that and can do the sums too, sadly it’s not just a case anymore of what you pay in is what you get out, our infrastructure and environment was on a tail spin long before brexit came along, its more to do with a top heavy authority/authorities that suck out more and more of the pot leaving less and less to do the job it was intended for!, what’s more I can’t see an end to it? TV police for instance take more of our tax than ever, but we have less bobbies on the beat than ever because the entire force is lopsided, over engineered vehicles, out of control procurement, an obsession with employing graduates who bring nothing to the force than an ology, council too has its fair share of blame, they still advertise jobs with final salary pensions, the public expected better than this

…. there is less money for all the things that are very very important, like healthcare, clean streets, diamond interchages, cinemas, clean streets , straight pavements, dog bins being empties, clear verges. That was the case up to and including the 22nd of June last year.

Just to clarify; if you voted remain it is because there was definitely and absolutely going to be enough money for all the things that are very very important, like healthcare, clean streets, diamond interchages, cinemas, clean streets , straight pavements, dog bins being emptied, clear verges. And, we assume, everyone who voted to stay knew this. I wonder if they were right? I guess we’ll never know now….
