Seagulls on Wilsham Road

Seagulls on Wilsham Road
Across from the River Thames, on Wilsham Road, a bungalow called Pendower is just about to be demolished. The grounds have room for two larger properties with higher roofs.

In the early morning, seagulls take up positions watching the river, from vantage points on Wilsham Road. You can tell their most popular positions from the white deposits they leave.

They are ready for whenever there is food on offer. They wheel round,

then swoop down to try to get the food from the ducks.

The seagulls, ducks and geese may look pleasing and fun for the children to feed, but there is a downside to this over population of wildlife, the mess they make is awful, Windows, cars, garden furniture and even washing on the line all receive a daily covering of poo and the Margaret Brown garden is over-run with rats picking up the left overs the birds missed!

I grew up in a town where there are a lot of seagulls. We call them shitehawks. You have my sympathy if you live near them.

Thanks moony, I’m not having a pop at mum & dad who bring their children to feed the ducks with their left over stale bread, but I am criticising the ones (adults) who appear most days armed with freshly bought tesco loaves who over feed so much, it’s they who are causing the problem, even the town council tractor driver makes a point of stopping there most days and randomly chucks corn all over the Margaret brown garden, now there is a colony of rats living in the stone wharf burrowing so much the thing will collapse one day !
