Petrol Prices at the Pump about the same in 2015 as in 2009

Abingdon Loyalty Card
Petrol prices at the pump in Abingdon are 113.9p per litre at BP in the Vineyard, 112.9p at Esso, and 111.9p at Tesco – the last time I looked.

Prices are much the same when I drive up the A34, but heading through Bicester I see 107.9p and 106.9p per litre advertised. Bicester looks the nearest place to Poundland for petrol that I have seen …

In the news over the last 24 hours … “The price of Brent crude oil has fallen below $50 a barrel for the first time since May 2009.” and “The eurozone fell into deflation for the first time in more than five years” on the back of falling oil prices.

Petrol Prices at the Pump look about the same in 2015 as they did in 2009 – but they looked expensive then.

remember that 2 thirds of the price is tax.
as I work in Bicester I always fill up before coming home – they seem to always be cheaper for some reason.
113 will get you premium unleaded at the moment there.

I suspect Tesco will soon drop their 2p off a litre from Loyalty Card holders. You can either use the accumulated points on food or fuel. (Up to 5p a litre max i was led to believe).

…i remember teh days when “the oil was running out”….and there was some issue about “man made climate change….”

I knew it was all a fuss about nothing!

Now…if we could just get rid of the on street parking restrictions and yellow lines….get the cars and shoppers back in to town…things may continue to get better! Until the election at least….

I heard that the USA was buying less oil from Saudi etc because they are getting a lot from Shale extraction, so Saudi and other Middle East countries have put their oil prices down to make it more competitive. Isn’t it about time that we sourced another kind of energy as oil will not last that long. Conspiracy theorists say that we could have made more progress on this front but Governments do not want to destabilize oil producing countries.

At tesco for every £50 you spend on groceries you get 2p off a litre, You can save up to 20p per litre but that means you have had to spend £500 on groceries….. they will still get you one way or another

In the papers today, Tesco selling their Blinkbox/broadband to TT, won’t be opening 49 new stores, closing 49 stores (express), that don’t make money. And not accepting new members to the pension scheme.

Wonder how long before the loyalty card is reduced further??.

Apologies, am hijacking the top article to ask a question…

I understand there was a public meeting about the Guildhall redevelopment on Wednesday evening. Not knowing about it, I was not able to go. Did anyone else? Any news? Anyone able to give a summary so another couple of dozen people can be updated too….?

I thought someone ‘in the know’ might have answered Daniel’s comment by now as this stalled redevelopment seems to have been haemorrhaging the Town’s tax-payers funds for quite a long time. It might, at least, be polite to let us all know whether something is happening,or will ever happen. I don’t think anything is ‘too confidential’, or ‘too complicated’ enough to let the TC splash the taxpayers money around without any need to report back to their electorate on a regular basis … sometime soon would be nice, especially before the election.

    Newcomer…perhaps no one was there…?

Isn’t there an old saying…”if a council meeting takes place in the woods, but there’s no one there to hear it; does it make a noise…”

    Hi Daniel & newcomer,

I believe it was a meeting of the TC’s Guildhall Committee, the first part of which was held in public and then a long chunk in ‘confidential’.

    I wasn’t there myself.
