After heavy rain on March 31st, more rain is expected on April 1st. So it is a good time to remind drivers they can be hit with a £100 fixed penalty notice and three penalty points if caught by the police splashing pedestrians.
Under section three of the Road Traffic Act 1988, splashing pedestrians can be considered driving ‘without reasonable consideration for other persons.’
Abingdon Carbon Cutters planted 240 trees at Rye Farm Meadow on Saturday 18th, March, with support from Annington, who is refurbishing former MOD housing at Lamborough Fields in nearby Shippon. The trees were provided free by the Woodland Trust, which offers trees to community groups. The tree planting was attended by over 100 volunteers of all ages who grabbed gloves and spades and planted their way towards a greener future for Abingdon.

Thanks to Janet, who sent me a poster to say that the Abingdon Horticultural Society Spring Show is this Saturday at the Northcourt Centre.
There is a lovely show of spring flowers outside the offices at St Helen’s Church. The lady who maintains that small garden keeps a colourful display all year round.
Bridge repairers have returned to finish off the work they could not complete last December. Their repair work last year allowed the bridge to be reopened after having restrictions from May 2021 to November 2022.
Signs suggest the single lane restrictions are temporary this time and the work will be completed before Easter, just 9 working days.
