There was a goodbye event for Lauren, the museum curator, who finishes on Wednesday. About 60 people attended a reception to thank her for all she has done for the museum. There were speeches by the Town Clerk, and the Chair of the Abingdon County Hall Museum Committee, and a very moving speech by Lauren herself. Then a magnificent cake was unveiled – made by Elizabeth Mergel (www.cakesbylizmergel.com) who supplies cakes for Throwing Buns.
50 years of Happy Memories at Rush Common Pre-School
Both the Cats Protection League and Rush Common Pre-School featured on the Market Place this sunny Saturday morning.

Rush Common Pre-School had a fund raising stand and were giving out cake and balloons. They also had a tombola, and activities for children. The pre school is 50 years old, and is held at All Saints Methodist Church Hall just down the road from Rush Common Primary School.

I was reminded by the Black Swan on Bath Street that British Summer Time begins tonight.
Joy on getting New Trees

Two new trees are being put in to replace the cherry trees that were cut down last year as part of the County Hall re-development.
“Tree felling upsets town” was the headline in the Abingdon Herald.
The new trees look better than the Cherry trees they have replaced so it looks like a good swap to me. They have fine white blossoms and are tall and slender and much better suited to the tight space. They could also be cherries but I’m not sure.
First Day of Spring

Last Sunday was Mothers Day – daffodils were given out to the mothers, grand mothers and GGMs in the congregation at Trinity. It was also Revd Richard’s last Sunday before a 4 month sabbatical. The one benefit of being a minister is that every few years you get an enforced sabbatical – or study leave.

21st March – yesterday already – was the first day of spring. (More importantly it was my mum’s birthday.)
The south part of town looks at its best at this time of year with the cherry trees in bloom.

Today there was a UK Budget and Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council had their first full meeting as Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council.
I did intend going to report on the town council meeting. Unfortunately I did not get back from work in time.

Hopefully somebody can let us know what happened.
