Red Carpet out at Museum

Royal Visit
Many thanks to Alex for sending me this picture of the official opening of the County Hall Museum. The Royal personage who unveiled the plaque was Prince Richard, The Duke of Gloucester. The last time The Duke of Gloucester visited Abingdon was for the opening of the Resource and Wellbeing Centre in October 2010. I didn’t get a picture of him on that occasion either.

It was by invitation to attend – staff, ex staff, Council, donators, builders, architect etc ….. all who had an input into this project. The Duke of Gloucester is the Queens cousin, and what a lovely man he was. He was very interested indeed in so much on display, asked many questions and spoke to many people and the soldiers standing to attention outside.

After he departed we attended refreshments in the Council Chamber.

A very busy man – his next stop was another opening in Oxford.

I must admit that this one passed me by too, but a quick check on the Town Council Events Diary shows that it is there…

Thank you Hester for reminding me about that site – recently I had just been looking at the small ‘whats on’ leaflet which is published every 3 months or so.
I definitely need to print off the Council Events Diary every month. Maybe even give some of the weekly events a whirl since there seems to be a lot going on in Abingdon.

Abingdon events need to be put in What’s on in Abingdon Herald/Oxford Mail. It’s free, and a lot of people, including me, often don’t make effort to go into Council website.

I think that the Council Events Diary is a good and useful service. However, I wish they would give a little more detail – contact details of organisations for example.

The other place to look is the Choose Abingdon What’s On – there is a link to that at top right of this page. That tends to have a bit more detail – contact details, prices etc – but because we rely on organisers to post the details there themselves it doesn’t always have all the events.

I in fact like em. It’s not like you dress in these out walking on town folks. That’s what exactly earbuds are actually for. If people sound very good I’d wholly wear these from home. While taking part in my rushing games and enjoying fast new music: D
