MGB enthusiasts and retired workers from the MGB production line in Abingdon will be meeting at Blenheim Palace for the 50th anniversary of the MGB tomorrow.
It was first launched in September 1962 and ceased production in October 1980.
This afternoon ten MGBs assembled on the Market Place in Abingdon, and others were to be seen driving, or parked, in town today.
The last MGB to be produced, painted bronze, is on fairly permanent display at Abingdon Conty Hall Museum.
Brown not bronze surely?!
Brown or bronze – doesn’t matter to me, I just love looking at this reminder from my past! I have enjoyed all of the MG events which have taken place in Abingdon too. My job entailed me in having to settle in a lot of different places in the uk but little did I think that I would end up living on the site of the MG factory!
There are a group oif us Yanks that are very much into the Originality aspects of the MGB and we are active on http://mgexperience.net as well as http://earlymgb.com
I am interested in finding someone who actually worked on the assembly line in Abingdon and can attect to how certain aspects of the MGBs were assembled back in the 60s and 70’s. I realise this is a difficult request but if it is possible in the age of the internet to find someone of that era, I would certainly appreciate the assistance. I write you due to the recent 50th Anniversay of the MGB in the hopes that you may know someone who may be able to offer their recollection.
Thanks and Happy New Year!
