New Green Box in the Back Street

New Green Box
Work is progressing well on changing St Edmund House from offices to flats, and during the process the roads near us on West St Helen Street – formerly known as the Back Street, have been dug up to connect the flats with water and sewerage.
New Green Box
The road has also been dug up further down, and a new green cabinet installed to connect more telephone and superfast broadband lines.
New Green Box
The old green box bulged with so many multi-coloured cables that it was a wonder BT engineers could ever disentangle them to get them to the correct property.

I just wish the residents of the town houses between the road to St Helens court and St Edmunds lane would refrain from parking their cars right up on the pavement by their front doors, in particular the owner of the green Mercedes? Most, if not all have their own parking at the back of their houses and a public car park behind!
Apart from looking awful they’ve ruined the paving!

This morning I actually saw a traffic warden in West St. Helen’s Street, the first time in a couple of years!

The lady – The parking warden has very little power and basically only looks after the council car parks and parking permit areas. You could park just about anywhere in the town and unless you are causing an obstruction the Police aren’t bothered (they are to be fair busy doing other more important stuff), there is no-one to enforce parking offences here, annoying as blue badge infringements are they will sadly go un-punished.

The lady. I agree, I find it offensive to see a builder van in the disabled bay in West St. Helen’s Street.
Badger, this might have been the case up to now, because the parking warden I saw was definitely looking at cars parked in the street. Of course he could just have been curious and was on his way to a car park, which are monitored.

The lady & peter – I took a cracking photo earlier this year of a taxi parked in that dis bay while he had his breakfast in the cafe next to the Turkish barber! But with no enforcement what can we expect? Although I gather the remit for our PCSO’s is given by the Town Council (who I’m told fund them?) so I suppose we have to lobby our town council councillor to get them to pay attention to the problem?
I have a big gripe with traffic going the wrong way over the iron bridge? Twice I’ve been hit by cars there going the wrong way! And they’re local too, the women who do the school run each afternoon , a silver golf, blue people carrier, owner of black audi A 3 who looks lives in the old foundry, then there’s the boy racers in the evening? Souped up lowered Polo, a black Seat, red golf, black Audi etc etc

Yes PPJS and forwarded to the PCSO who said they may be given a warning ! Incidentally, I’ve just forwarded to Backstreeter a clip off my cctv showing a biker who I reckon was doing 80 mph along Wilsham rd !
Hope he puts it on here?
