This morning in town M&Co had to be closed and cordoned off because the corner of the roof had come adrift, and was looking dangerous. Two fire engines from Abingdon-on-Thames Fire Station were dispatched.

The rescue platform was lifted up to where the guttering was broken off

and then secured to the platform and broken off completely.

Quite a crowd gathered to watch the operation.

From this day forward at Abingdon Lock …
Thankyou to Steve for these pictures, and the story….

Richard, the lock keeper, was married yesterday afternoon at St Helens Church.

The Happy Couple left the church by Environment Agency patrol launch for a short trip upstream to the lock.

They were followed by a flotilla of boats, and at the lock friends and relations greeted them with a shower of confetti.
So from this day forward, through high waters and low, in wet weather and sunshine, we wish them all the very best.
Circus to visit Caldecott School

The Friends of Caldecott Primary School have invited a circus to come to the school in September and they would love the Big Top to be filled as a circus is so much better if there are lots of people.
You can help make the event better by buying tickets at : www.pta-events.co.uk/friendsofcaldecott.
The trailer below shows Happy’s Circus, who often take their circus into schools to help with fundraising …
Promoting Whats On in and around Abingdon

The Abingdon Information Centre has moved upstairs into the County Hall Museum Sessions hall in Abingdon. I believe this arrangement is for the medium term until something better can be sorted out at the Guildhall. The stairs to the museum might seem a problem for some people but you can use the intercom and the person at the desk will come down to see you.
After finding what was on offer, I booked two tickets for Ma Bessie and Lisa Mills, performing at Cosener’s House on 30th September. There is also an interesting open air performance of A Woman of no Importance at Milton House on Saturday at 5pm.

There is the chance to learn new art techniques with Abingdon Art School.

Looking at Events on the Abingdon on Thames website I see that this coming Saturday the Oxfordshire Chilli Festival is on Abingdon Market Place, with street food and live music.
