Circular Walk via Abingdon Weir and Lock

Circular Walk
There were some lovely clear reflections from the River Thames upstream from Abingdon Bridge.
Circular Walk
Nearing Abingdon Weir the water got rougher. Lots of people were enjoying the walk, and riverside views.

The walkway over Abingdon Weir
Circular Walk
and Lock makes a circular walk possible – along one bank and back along the other.

Next to the weir a stone reads:

THIS LOCKE WAS BVILDED BY
S. GEORGE STONEHOVSE AND
RICHARD ADAMS ANN. 1649

The stone is mounted in concrete. Since 1649. the weir has been reconstructed and repaired numerous times. I gather that the walkway across the weir was added during work in the 1960s.

and some surfers caught by a boat.

Steve himself threw in a hook to pull out a bike that got thrown into the river the day before. He must have had a lot of practise as he hooked it and pulled it out at the first attempt. The bike, an Apollo, was left on Wilsham Road by the old canal junction waiting to be reunited with its owner.
