More Snow

More Snow
The snow continued to fall through the night and by morning there was a covering in Abingdon. There has been more snow this winter than most recent years, and I think this is the third covering. This is the view to the back of Long Alley Almshouse…

Looking up East St Helen Street, the blue and gold flag put up on Commonwealth Day, 12th March, is still there. The Commonwealth Flag is one of the allowed flags from the protocol followed by the Town Council.

On the Market Place, looking towards the County Hall, pigeons flew down in the hope of food.

Daffodils near the Abbey Meadows were looking sad and droopy.

Looking along the River Thames, the banks both sides were white and the river a silver sheen.

At Fat Face there was a contrast between the snow outside and children on the beach, advertising a new range. The year is already picking up speed. Spring starts in three days time.

Not spring, really; but the equinox. Chaucer has spring in April. March is in like a lamb and out like a lion. And by noon on Sunday the melt looked like beginning.

managed to lose control of my car for the first time in my life last night. on the motorway from marlow managed to spin 180 and somehow avoided the central barrier and ended up on the hard shoulder facing the wrong way. then a gritting lorry passed by 5 mins later. i now officially don’t like snow.

rudi: sorry to hear about your spin – glad you are alive, hope your car is not too damaged.

Losing control of a car is frightening. Have you ever visited a skid pan?

If you want details you can visit https://www.roadartvg.org.uk/index.php/events where you’ll find a link to skidpan courses at Thruxton (near Andover), where there’s a top class facility. It’s worth visiting; in a morning you learn how to regain control quickly and safely.

    Go well.

DofL, the traffic can’t move, roads are at a standstill – often, with queues back to Preston Rd, the carparks are full – or in use by The Veil officers, the leisure centre is at capacity, the Towns assets are offloaded at will….there are no community facilites for a town this size…and with that lack of infrastructure in place for the current population….they’ll only update it when a few thousand more houses come – so THAT population will be equally uncatered for as well.

But…I imagine that the flowers will be looking good before we know it; and so we will remain distracted.
