Boris Johnson came to Abingdon yesterday and huge crowds gathered to hear him speak in front of the County Hall. Thanks to Hester for the first picture.
Thanks to Steve for a picture of Megan and Boris.
Thanks to Iain for somebody else having a picture with Boris.
And thanks to Paul for Boris and Nicola visiting Simon’s News.
Boris Johnson is Mayor of London, and the Conservative parliamentary candidate for the seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip at the 2015 general election.
Did he come on a bike?
Judging by how late he was, he might well have done. While everyone was hanging around waiting we saw a red double-decker bus and thought that might have been him.
…is he going to help us get Lodge Hill fully open?
Or put a stop to building on green belt land?
..from the local BBC radio programme I heard, only the Yellow team (out of the big three, but also Green and Purple teams) are interested in NOT building on the greenbelt north of Abingdon.
The others seemed to think it OK…as it would mean lots of affordable housing…?….(except it wouldn’t).
For those still not sure who to vote for, this website gives the conservative candidate’s voting record in the last parliament.

Daniel – under the draft Local Plan there is a requirement for a certain percentage (35 I think) of the houses built on the new development to be “affordable”. (And before anyone replies that the Old Gaol developers haven’t yet delivered on their commitment in respect of that a) they have at least tried – but local opposition led to the application bring rejected and b) I think this is an isolated example – there are numerous examples of recent developments where the commitment has been honoured.
So I am not sure what you are basing that statement on?
…35%, or 35 houses?
Oxonian, that voting record is illuminating. I do not have a vote in OXWAB, though.
%
….well, best get them houses built then!
Those “affordable” houses then need to be sold to the right people and not people who are instantly going to put that house on the “to Let” market.
