The children’s area of Abingdon Library will be closed from 10th-12th March 2015 for a revamp.
I have heard that Wally will no longer be so prominent,
and the fish tank is to be replaced with something smaller.
All shall be revealed by this time next week!
The children’s part of the library is doing very well with attendance well up on a year ago, whereas other libraries have seen a decline. So this revamp is very well deserved.
Does this mean that ‘Phase 2’ of the revamp isn’t happening?
It would seem a waste to do this work only for it to be demolished and rebuilt.
You are so right Andy, definitely something fishy going on, by the looks of it….
We’re really lucky to have a fantastic library in Abingdon – well done to Rosie and her team
There comes a time when a 1970s library needs a bit of new carpet and a more user friendly seating area. You can put that off for years in case something happens or you can do something to make the place a bit better for a while that might turn into a long while.
I don’t believe in doing nothing to improve our environment when something can be done and often it doesn’t cost a fortune to make a real difference.
What I know from elsewhere is that improvement of libraries often comes from a pot not related to library funding or any other local pot which is odd but explains a lot.
My son has been a regular user of the library since babyhood, we both really appreciate the facilities and the helpful staff. He’s now 12 and no longer so keen on reading; I’m doing my best to keep an interest in literature going though so we’re still in there regularly.
Thank you to everyone in Abingdon Library; I hope they are reading this blog.
Now we’ve seen the results of the revamp, it definitely gets our seal of approval. Front-facing bookshelves (so you can see the awesome covers rather than just leaf through the spines), nice new comfy seats for a bit of reading before you borrow. We’re mightily impressed (and we know a thing or two about children’s books 🙂
