It rained through the day and the night

Rain
It rained through the day and the night and water levels are beginning to get high – although not yet overflowing the river banks. April has been cool and showery, and there has been more sustained rain of late.

Yesterday the brave souls from the St Helen’s scout group were trying to hold a book sale / tombola etc. on the Market Place. They had a trailer load of books they had not dry room to unpack. There was also a St Helen’s church book sale and coffee morning in the church centre.

We did not get a huge turn out to the SARP event at Preston Road, although there is another next Saturday at the rugby club (10-1). The picture shows Aidan Melville, Abingdon’s first ever Labour Councillor for many years, and one of the newer Conservative Councillors, Holly Holman.

I went along around 12.30 when there a good many more flags pinned on the map, raising many good positive ideas for South Abingdon residents to benifit from.

It was a suprise to me that the Mayor, himself a resident of South Abingdon, didnt come along and lend support those who voted him onto the council.

Maybe the bad weather, and sparce publicity kept attendance lower than might have been hoped for, but at least there was,and is in the near future, an oppertunity for us to have a non political say in what we want in the future for the area where we llive.

I only knew about it from this blog, but wasn’t able to attend. None of my neighbours knew about it. Needs pub;icity.

Thank you to all the kind people who stopped to show their support to 10th Abingdon (St Helen’s) Scout Group by having a go on the Tombola, purchasing a cake or broswing the books. In spite of the rain we made a tidy profit.
