Members of the Abingdon Community Orchestra were crammed into the office performing carols. Last year they were forced to squeeze in there because of the rain. This year they did it from tradition. (Play the video and see if you can identify the carol.)

On the Market Place there were many more stalls and a Santa’s Grotto. Martin was there as official photographer. He is seen here with Joanna Page, Welsh actress and comedian, best known for her role as Stacey in Gavin & Stacey. I am looking forward to the Christmas Special reunion. Martin will have lots of photos on Facebook of the Extravaganza.

It was an amazing day, so many people having fun, spending money in the town and helping local charities. Well done to the organisers, volunteers who give their time all year round for this. But wait for the anti firework moaners to begin.

Agreed – many people think the Council organise this, but they don’t. They provide valuable support – and it is great to see the mayor taking such a prominent part – but the whole thing is organised by volunteers who as Kelly says work all year round to make it happen. Sponsorship from local businesses is also absolutely crucial.
    Well done all.

Mr Surman, maybe if you take time to google ‘animals in distress from fireworks’, you may understand why some people in Abingdon question the need for such loud explosions. These displays affect everyone, you can’t opt out from hearing them.

Su, waste of time protesting to Mr Surman, as a once resident of River View Terrace myself and other residents there gave up trying to stop the canoe club from paddling down the Ock, trashing Coots nest and destroying the Bank Voles habitat as they had “fun in the water” I had a blazing row with him when he deliberately paddled straight over a nesting Coot and another time when they flattened the stinging nettles and other undergrowth that was the bank voles habitat just so they could launch their canoes off the bank!

Horsemouth. This is a categorically untrue account of our meeting many years ago and it is sad that you choose to repeat it.. I will leave it at that as those who know me would know the truth..Su as far as fireworks distressing animals , several people have suggested ways that this could be mitigated. and have done so. If this is not the case and there are reasons why it cannot e done, then I apologise.Thank you Su for pointing out the information to me.
