Outdoor Pool to re-open on 16th June after £1.3million rebuild

Outdoor Pool
The Vale of White Horse District Council will hold the official opening event of the rebuilt pool on the morning of 16th June and it will be open to the public from 1pm.
Outdoor Pool
The rebuild involved joining the infant pool and main pool into one large area. There is a gently sloping walk-in the pool with easy access for young children and for visitors with disabilities. There is also a deep water area for more experienced swimmers.

The changing areas have also been fully refurbished.

The pool will be surrounded by a safe, non-slip rubber surface. Energy saving lighting and heating equipment will make the pool more efficient to run.

In a press release Councillor Charlotte Dickson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: It’s so fantastic to see how this much-loved local pool has been transformed.

The council is appealing for people to send in old pictures of Abbey Meadow pool which could feature in a special picture display at the re-opening event. A free swim is on offer for anybody who submits a picture that is used in the display. For more details please contact communications@southandvale.gov.uk.

The pool is going to be a great resource for Abingdon. I have expressed my disgust at the Vale for still not providing a site for the Kingfisher Canoe Club. It is very important for the youth of Abingdon to have a recreational facility. The Vale do not have the interests of Abingdon at Heart.

Looking forward to the opening. I hope the changing rooms include lockers – this was something that was much missing from the old changing area.

Oh Janet, try not to be disgusted all the time. It isn’t attractive. Of course the Vale has the interests of Abingdon at heart, that’s why they spent £1.3 million on the pool in response to public wishes. You admit it’s going to be a great resource. So rejoice, for once. God bless you.

seems a whole lot of cash for an outdoor pool – couldn’t they have built a roof over it at the same time? – open air looks pretty but how many years would it take if ever to pay for this as open air?

I just love how the people of Abingdon manage to turn a positive into a negative. Unbelievable

Not all of us, Chris.I’m so pleased about the pool. Well done everyone who fought for it.

And Janet, please try to not be so negative about every good Abingdon achievement. Not nice.

I think, to be fair to Janet, she isn’t being negative about a positive. She’s being negative about a negative.

    The pools great.

    Next issue

She is disgusted by The Veil and their handling of the canoe club.

Meanwhile, is there a bun Throw this weekend?

Janet wrote that she thought the pool was going to be a great resource. Where’s the negative in that?

She then reported a lack of progress in relation to premises for the Kingfisher Canoe Club. She said she was disgusted. Others might have said “disappointed”, but she obviously felt stronger.

There are two different issues here. She applauds the pool; she is fed up about the canoe club.

I frequently disagree with Janet, but she is consistent in her advocacy! And in this case she has been very positive about the open air swimming pool.

When I lived in Abingdon the annual opening of the open air pool also marked the ending of the sunny weather. Let’s hope the refurbished pool brings in the sunshine.
