Some people cannot afford to turn on their heating. I know someone who goes to the library in Abingdon to save heating costs. Green energy has meant higher costs and the poor suffer. One poor ex military man with type 2 diabetes had his benefits stopped and his electricity cut off. He died of starvation. Can anyone tell me why the prepayment meters cost more for the poor in energy costs.

There seem to be quite a lot of Pigeons this year there were a large number roosting on top of the ex-CoOp and Poundland at the end of Bury Street yesterday, I was musing over what poundage of guano they were producing whist parked. The spiked defences along Bury street seemed to be deterring them from congregating in the shopping area.

I’m sure you know Janet, it is illegal for any of the energy firms to disconnect you if you can not afford to pay. If you can not afford to pay however, they instal a meter…then, if you can’t afford it…you in effect, cut yourself off….so they aren’t doing anything wrong.
Yes, this does also mean that the poor can be screwed a little more by being charged more for their energy. However, if it means the energy companies can have bigger profits, and shareholders can get greater dividends…so be it. But dont worry, there are various veneers of regulation and government bodies paid for by us tax payers to ensure all is, in fact, ok.
pretty obvious that providing someone with a payment meter will cost the company more than a direct debit paying user – the companies are not charities and their profit margins are actually very slim – single digit.
but hey, lets all love each other and let everyone have unlimited gas and electric for free hmmm ?
Hey Rudi, I think the point trying to be made here is the price of our utilities should not be based on the ability to pay? Why should someone with a prepayment meter have to pay considerable more than those on direct debit? Just as those who pay monthly by dd will be overpaying considerably compared to those who have a quarterly bill !

Make a charge, however, those who have a soak away system, who’s rain water sinks back into the water table, still get charged, it’s ipto the individual to get this charge removed, and they will remove it.
