{"id":8166,"date":"2013-01-28T23:48:27","date_gmt":"2013-01-28T22:48:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=8166"},"modified":"2013-01-28T23:48:27","modified_gmt":"2013-01-28T22:48:27","slug":"abingdon-public-conveniences-an-undervalued-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=8166","title":{"rendered":"Have Abingdon Public Conveniences had their day?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In November, the Vale of White Horse District Council asked people to respond to a survey of what services are important to them. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk\/about-us\/tell-us-what-you-think\/past-consultations\/budget-consultation-201314\">137 people responded<\/a>.<br \/>\n20 people (15%) thought public toilets an important public service.<br \/>\nThere were lots of other services but for comparison &#8230;<br \/>\n36 people (26%) thought council car parks an important public service.<\/p>\n<p>As a result it appears from last weeks Abingdon Herald that council officers have suggested that the council could save money, by closing the public conveniences.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Abingdon Public Conveniences\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag13\/13012805.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThe superloo in the car park near West St Helen&#8217;s Street has already been&nbsp;decommissioned&nbsp;and is waiting to be taken away. It was probably the least used.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Abingdon Public Conveniences\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag13\/13012807.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThe superloos near the cricket club could follow.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Abingdon Public Conveniences\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag13\/13012808.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAs could the normal loo near the Abbey Meadows<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Abingdon Public Conveniences\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag13\/13012806.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAnd that at the Charter.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nAnother question in the survey asked which services are in most need of future investment.<br \/>\n37 (27%) said public toilets.<br \/>\n24 (18%) said Car Parks.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately \u00a340,000 a year can be saved by closing the remaining three public conveniences in Abingdon, <\/p>\n<p>Have Abingdon Public Conveniences had their day?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In November, the Vale of White Horse District Council asked people to respond to a survey of what services are important to them. 137 people responded. 20 people (15%) thought public toilets an important public service.
