{"id":7971,"date":"2012-12-31T11:00:30","date_gmt":"2012-12-31T10:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=7971"},"modified":"2012-12-31T11:00:30","modified_gmt":"2012-12-31T10:00:30","slug":"2012-diamond-jubilee-olympics-and-flooding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=7971","title":{"rendered":"2012: Diamond Jubilee, Olympics and flooding. 2013: Here We Come!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag12\/2012third1.jpg\" alt=\"2012 quick look back\" \/><br \/>\nOn Jan 1st the Town Crier kindly posed with the boots and sack as we walked round the 1556 Abingdon boundary.<br \/>\nFebruary did celebrate Valentine&#8217;s Day but most people were already looking forward to the olympics.<br \/>\nMarch brought Mark Steele to town as part of the Abingdon Arts Festival.<br \/>\nIn April people competed to see who could throw a bun the furthest and help the councillors during the diamond jubilee bun throw.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag12\/2012third2.jpg\" alt=\"2012 quick look back\" \/><br \/>\nIn May was the amazing Abingdon Air and Country Show.<br \/>\nIn June was the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and James May came with various contraptions to help councillors throw buns. It poured with rain but we showed Dunkirk Spirit.<br \/>\nIn July Abingdon Museum was re-opened, and the Olympic Torch was carried through Abingdon.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag12\/2012third3.jpg\" alt=\"2012 quick look back\" \/><br \/>\nIn September the postponed Dragon Boat Racing took place &#8211; postponed because the river was flooded earlier in the year. The year started with a drought and hose pipe ban.<br \/>\nOctober brought the Ock Street Fair.<br \/>\nNovember brought floods, and December brought yet more floods.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag12\/12122901.jpg\" alt=\"2012 quick look back\" \/><br \/>\nThroughout the year contractors have been working on the Abbey Shopping Centre.
