{"id":4023,"date":"2011-07-04T23:07:28","date_gmt":"2011-07-04T22:07:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=4023"},"modified":"2011-07-04T23:07:28","modified_gmt":"2011-07-04T22:07:28","slug":"new-abingdon-spa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=4023","title":{"rendered":"New Abingdon Spa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070506.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Lido\" \/><br \/>\nAt West Waddy , the architects at 60 East St Helen Street, until Thursday from 1pm &#8211; 4pm, there is an exhibition of the work of student architects from Brookes University.\u00a0 It is a well presented exhibition in a beautiful riverside building.<\/p>\n<p>The brief\u00a0 for architectural students was to design a Lido and Spa in Abingdon\u00a0 <em>for the 21st Century<\/em>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070501.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Lido\" \/><br \/>\nThe Abingdon Open Air Pool \/ Lido has survived when many others have closed after their heyday before the 1970s. The brief asked students to cater for &#8220;<em>contemporary society, in particular the young and families. It should accommodate the early morning serious swimmer, the lunchtime and after work swimmer, school groups, weekend families, <\/em><em>summer tourists, <\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070504.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Lido\" \/><em> <\/em><br \/>\n<em>evening socialisers,\u00a0 and winter enthusiasts<\/em>.&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070503.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Lido\" \/><br \/>\nThe exhibiton showed a range of work &#8211; all very creative and theoretical but I am not sure it will give SOLL leisure &#8211; who currently run the pool &#8211; many practical ideas to help make the pool a more popular venue.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070505.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Lido\" \/><br \/>\nThe winning design showed a glass bottomed pool projecting out towards the river and fields beyond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At West Waddy , the architects at 60 East St Helen Street, until Thursday from 1pm &#8211; 4pm, there is an exhibition of the work of student architects from Brookes University.\u00a0 It is a well presented exhibition in a beautiful riverside building.
