{"id":3996,"date":"2011-07-03T00:48:47","date_gmt":"2011-07-02T23:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=3996"},"modified":"2011-07-03T00:48:47","modified_gmt":"2011-07-02T23:48:47","slug":"armed-forces-open-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=3996","title":{"rendered":"Armed Forces Open Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the Armed Forces Open Day, there were a lot of stalls and information displays &#8211; some from the local community like Waitrose giving away lots of freebies, and some from the army giving the local community an insight into army life.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070308.jpg\" alt=\"Army Day\" \/><br \/>\n(Thanks to Iain for sending the picture of the smoke above and the one of rifle practise below). He says&#8230; &#8221; <em>There was a fantastic demonstration from the 12th Logistic Support Regiment, who have recently returned from active service in Helmund Province, of the sort of tactical maneuvers they are required to deploy in the field. The crowd were clearly impressed, with the close proximity of the smoke canisters adding to the experience, and expressed their appreciation by joining in with a chorus of \u2018happy birthday\u2019 for Private\u00a0&#8230; who has just participated in the exercise.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070312.jpg\" alt=\"Army Day\" \/><br \/>\nMy children were particularly excited by the opportunities to practice some of the martial arts, past and present. They loved the archery and the chance to become a sniper and fire a gun with \u2018real bullets\u2019.<\/em>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070302.jpg\" alt=\"Army Day\" \/><br \/>\nThere were also cuddly animals,<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070309.jpg\" alt=\"Army Day\" \/><br \/>\namusements like these human hamster balls<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070307.jpg\" alt=\"Army Day\" \/><br \/>\nand the archery Iain mentioned.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11070311.jpg\" alt=\"Army Day\" \/><br \/>\nThanks to the regiments at Dalton Barracks for another well organised event. Every accident was well planned.
