{"id":34531,"date":"2025-11-07T22:27:31","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T22:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=34531"},"modified":"2025-11-07T22:27:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T22:27:31","slug":"inaugural-poppy-ball-in-abingdon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=34531","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural Poppy Ball in Abingdon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag25\/2025110705.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThe inaugural Poppy Ball took place this evening at the Hilton Hotel, Abingdon.<\/p>\n<p>Organised by Clare Oldfield on behalf of the Abingdon Royal British Legion Club, the event brought together local musical talent and community spirit in support of the Poppy Appeal.<\/p>\n<p>On arrival guests saw a vintage military jeep and a rare 1945 ambulance \u2014 of only around 20 known to exist.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag25\/2025110703.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nGuests were welcomed by re-enactors from The Redline Home Guard, a historical group dedicated to honouring the men of Berkshire and Oxfordshire who volunteered to defend Britain during the Second World War.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag25\/2025110707b.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nInside the ballroom, tables were decorated with poppy arrangements created by the Abingdon Flower Club.<\/p>\n<p>Music was provided by Abingdon SwingTime, a 20-piece swing orchestra.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag25\/2025110701b.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nTheir music had guests on the dance floor twirling around and doing under arm turns.<\/p>\n<p>A raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, together with a secret auction for a specially donated picture, helped raise funds for the Poppy Appeal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The inaugural Poppy Ball took place this evening at the Hilton Hotel, Abingdon.
