{"id":3409,"date":"2011-05-07T15:26:56","date_gmt":"2011-05-07T14:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=3409"},"modified":"2011-05-07T15:26:56","modified_gmt":"2011-05-07T14:26:56","slug":"mr-hemmings-day-of-dance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=3409","title":{"rendered":"Mr Hemmings Day of Dance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mr Hemmings\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11050404.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThese three men &#8211; Abingdon born and bred &#8211; belong to <a href=\"http:\/\/mrhemmings.org.uk\/\">Mr. Hemmings<\/a> Traditional Abingdon Morris Dancers.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mr Hemmings\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11050403.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nTheir annual day of dance is on the nearest Saturday to the birthday of Tom Hemmings on May 6th.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Hemmings helped revive the Abingdon Morris tradition in the early half of the 20th century and was an important figure until his death in 1960.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mr Hemmings\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11050401.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThere were 5 or 6 visiting groups &#8211; including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winchester-morris-men.org.uk\/\">Winchester Morris Men<\/a><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mr Hemmings\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11050409.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nand a group from Adderbury,<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mr Hemmings\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag11\/11050406.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAs well as the dance there was the odd bit of horsing around. The day began with rain but ended almost sunny.
