\nToday began with street parties (Exbourne Road pictured).

\nThere were also after church parties (Abingdon Baptist Church pictured). At church, it was a day to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the Queen and Pentecost (the church’s birthday).<\/p>\n

Then at 5 pm in Abingdon, there was a bun throw. Here are pictures with rhymes to capture this event.<\/p>\n

Abingdon Bun Throw – 70th Jubilee<\/strong>

\nThe crowd has taken every space.
\nThey overflow the Market Place.
\n
\nSons and daughters, dads and mums:
\nChant as one: We want buns!<\/em>
\n
\nCouncillors and civic graces
\nLook down upon the sea of faces \u2013
\n
\nSt Nic’s church bells start to ring.
\nDignatories start to fling.
\n
\nCurrant buns dot the sky,
\nSpeeding up from on high.
\n
\nOne plummets down. You nearly catch it,
\nSomeone taller leaps to snatch it.
\n
\nA wild bun hits you on the head,
\nAnd bounds to someone else instead.
\nOne final bun falls a tumbling.
\nOne last try, no more fumbling:
\n
\nYou’ve got a 70 on that bun.
