There were blue skies as we arrived back in town.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag19\/19070303.jpg\" alt=\"Idling while parked\" \/><br \/>\nThe Vale of White Horse District Council recently launched an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk\/services-and-advice\/environment-and-neighbourhood-issues\/air-quality\/turn-it-our-anti-idling-campaig\">anti idling campaign<\/a>&nbsp;to improve air quality. They say&nbsp;<i>If people are stopped for more than a minute or parked then they should turn their engines off.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>They also say<br \/>\n<em><br \/>\n* 1 minute of idling produces 150 balloons of harmful pollutants.<br \/>\n* People inside cars are exposed to high levels of air pollution, with children especially at risk of harmful effects.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/idling-drivers-could-face-higher-fines-under-new-government-crackdown\">June 29th<\/a> the government  announced higher fines for vehicles idling while parked. It was already an offence under the Road Traffic (Vehicle Emissions) (Fixed Penalty) (England) Regulations (Statutory Instrument 2002 No. 1808).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are back in Abingdon after a few days away.
