It will be a big day in Abingdon, and so a good day to visit the town for anybody needing an excuse.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag19\/19030602.jpg\" alt=\"3 good reasons to be in Abingdon\" \/><br \/>\n360 boats from across the UK will race&nbsp; against the clock&nbsp; on the River Thames in the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190408013308\/https:\/\/head.abingdonrc.org.uk\/\">annual Head of the River <\/a>event organised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abingdonrc.org.uk\/\">Abingdon Rowing Club<\/a>.&nbsp;The majority of club members and many of their family members volunteer a huge amount of time before, during and after the event to plan, set up, supervise and clear up.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag19\/19030603.jpg\" alt=\"3 good reasons to be in Abingdon\" \/><br \/>\nThe Upper Thames Patrol (the water-borne Home Guard in WW2) will be at Abingdon Lock for The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thamesatwar.co.uk\/\">Thames at War re-enactment event<\/a>.
