{"id":21321,"date":"2018-10-08T23:46:58","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T22:46:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=21321"},"modified":"2018-10-08T23:46:58","modified_gmt":"2018-10-08T22:46:58","slug":"abingdon-michaelmas-fair-monday-evening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=21321","title":{"rendered":"Abingdon Michaelmas Fair &#8211; and a fine Monday Evening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag18\/18100902.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Fair\" \/><br \/>\nThe strangest thing about Abingdon Fair is that, even though we live only sixty yards from the fair, we do not hear the pulsating noise from the big rides until we leave the house.<\/p>\n<p>This evening as we left the house, people from South Abingdon were streaming by, up West St Helen Street, towards the fair and the main thoroughfare along High Street and Ock Street.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag18\/18100905.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Fair\" \/><br \/>\nOn the corner of West St Helen Street you can get popcorn, candy floss, and toffee apples from the Fresh Fast Food stall.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag18\/18100904.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Fair\" \/><br \/>\nAs the night drew on there was still lots of youngsters enjoying hook a ducks (which have made a come back this year)<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag18\/18100916.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Fair\" \/><br \/>\nand the many children&#8217;s rides and harnessed trampolines.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag18\/18100910.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Fair\" \/><br \/>\nFurther on there are the dodgems, the ideal ride for parents and kids to enjoy together.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag18\/18100908.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Fair\" \/><br \/>\nAbout half way along Ock Street you come to Hell&#8217;s Gate.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag18\/18100909.jpg\" alt=\"Abingdon Fair\" \/><br \/>\nThe bigger rides are on the Market Place and from Hell&#8217;s Gate to the end of Ock Street. Here the roads are wide enough to allow bigger rides and spectators and the passage of lots of people &#8211; all together.
