{"id":18217,"date":"2017-03-18T18:51:40","date_gmt":"2017-03-18T17:51:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=18217"},"modified":"2017-03-18T18:51:40","modified_gmt":"2017-03-18T17:51:40","slug":"south-abingdon-childrens-centre-celebration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=18217","title":{"rendered":"South Abingdon Children&#8217;s Centre Celebration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag17\/17031815.jpg\" alt=\"South Abingdon Childrens Centre\" \/><br \/>\nThis afternoon there was a party to celebrate the work of the South Abingdon Children&#8217;s Centre.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag17\/17031812.jpg\" alt=\"South Abingdon Childrens Centre\" \/><br \/>\nThe Children&#8217;s Centre has been a place where children up to five, and their familes, can find a variety of activities, play, information and support from professionals working in a wide range of fields.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag17\/17031801.jpg\" alt=\"South Abingdon Childrens Centre\" \/><br \/>\nAt the party were Morris Dancers, and staff, Carbon Cutters, and volunteers, along with many familes that have used the facilities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag17\/17031814.jpg\" alt=\"South Abingdon Childrens Centre\" \/><br \/>\nThe Children&#8217;s Centre opened about sixteen years ago as a replacement for the Family Centre on Saxton Road. It is recognised that there has always been the need for such a place in this part of town to give children a good start in life.<\/p>\n<p>Budget cuts mean that the County Council are now strictly targeting families at risk, and Children&#8217;s Centres across Oxfordshire are closing.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag17\/17031804.jpg\" alt=\"South Abingdon Childrens Centre\" \/><br \/>\nIt is yet to be seen how the South Abingdon Children&#8217;s Centre will find new life. The Green Man recited a poem about new life from old, and the phoenix rising from the ashes. The future could be as a part of Caldecott School with a charity group running part of the premises.
