There was a large attendance by the army, and other uniformed groups, and a large turnout of the general public.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16111302.jpg\" alt=\"Remembrance Day\" \/><br \/>\nThe first parade was where town dignatories followed the town band from the Guildhall down East St Helen Street to a service at St Helen&#8217;s Church led by Revd Dr Charles Miller.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16111303.jpg\" alt=\"Remembrance Day\" \/><br \/>\nThat was followed by a second service of remembrance round the war memorial &#8211; with a two minutes silence at 11am<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16111304.jpg\" alt=\"Remembrance Day\" \/><br \/>\nAbout 40 organisations came to lay wreaths at the war memorial during the singing of the hymn &#8220;O God Our Help in Ages Past.&#8221; Pictured is Ena Mitchell, aged 97, of the War Widows Association, whose husband died in Belgium in September 1944. <\/p>\n<p>A member of the Royal British Legion then said the Kohima Prayer:<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n&#8220;When you go home tell them of us, and say,<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\nfor your tomorrow we gave our today&#8221;<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16111305.jpg\" alt=\"Remembrance Day\" \/><br \/>\nThe Lord&#8217;s Prayer was said, the National Anthem Sang, and then people lined the High Street to cheer the troops and members of the uniformed groups as they saluted the Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames, Councillor Alice Badcock.<\/p>\n<p>More pictures on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AbingdonBlog\/photos\/a.1242131089184778.1073741852.454845414580020\/1242131199184767\/?type=3&#038;theater\">Abingdon Blog Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The annual Remembrance Day parades and services were held today in Abingdon.
