{"id":15582,"date":"2016-01-31T00:02:57","date_gmt":"2016-01-30T23:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=15582"},"modified":"2016-01-31T00:02:57","modified_gmt":"2016-01-30T23:02:57","slug":"here-we-come-a-wassailing-in-caldecott","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=15582","title":{"rendered":"Here We Come A-wassailing in Caldecott"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16013004.jpg\" alt=\"Wassail\" \/><br \/>\nNext to the Local Excellence Market, this morning, campaigners, intent on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Save-Oxfordshires-Childrens-Centres-Campaign-1651908138365485\/\">saving the Oxfordshire Children;s Centres<\/a> from closure, were asking people to pledge not to vote for ANY County Councillor who votes for the closure of the Childrens Centres in next week&#8217;s budget meeting.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16013012.jpg\" alt=\"Wassail\" \/><br \/>\nAt South Abingdon Children&#8217;s Centre this afternoon there was a Wassail. It was the second year this event has taken place.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16013006.jpg\" alt=\"Wassail\" \/><br \/>\nThe children;s centre was open for activities and free refreshments. It often acts as a Community Centre as well as a Children&#8217;s Centre.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16013005.jpg\" alt=\"Wassail\" \/><br \/>\nOutside in the grounds of Caldecott School there was dancing by the Vale Islanders and Abingdon Traditional Morris Dancers.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16013007.jpg\" alt=\"Wassail\" \/><br \/>\nMulled apple juice was heating on an open fire in the forest school area.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16013008.jpg\" alt=\"Wassail\" \/><br \/>\nand down in the orchard area a traditional wassail poem was recited to the apple trees.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag16\/16013009.jpg\" alt=\"Wassail\" \/><br \/>\nTrees were festooned with ribbons and hung with toast for the birds to feed on.
