The event run by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abingdon-rotary.org.uk\/\">Rotary Club of Abingdon Vesper<\/a> is one of the high points of the Abingdon Calendar.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag14\/14090725.jpg\" alt=\"Dragon Boat Racing 2014\" \/><br \/>\nTeams of 16 people\u00a0and 1 drummer, steered by an expert from Dragon Boat Racing, competed for three rounds, and then the three fastest teams raced off in the final.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag14\/14090716.jpg\" alt=\"Dragon Boat Racing 2014\" \/><br \/>\nA lot of the teams wore matching wigs or headgear this year, and the crews had to work hard<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag14\/14090717.jpg\" alt=\"Dragon Boat Racing 2014\" \/><br \/>\ndriven on by the character beating the drum.<\/p>\n<p>The teams raise money for charity. The\u00a0M.C. said that one team has raised about \u00a310,000 this year. Rotary Vesper also raise money for its own charity projects such as Canal boat trips for disabled, and Micro Credit in Uganda.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag14\/14090713.jpg\" alt=\"Dragon Boat Racing 2014\" \/><br \/>\nThe event also has fair ground rides, and stalls including one for that had recharable (sic) power packs for any mobile phone.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/imag14\/14090712.jpg\" alt=\"Dragon Boat Racing 2014\" \/><br \/>\nOn what was a hot and thirsty day the beer tent did very well. It was a great day, and well organised by the Abingdon &#8216;Vespers&#8217; Rotary Club. They meet in the evening.
