{"id":1135,"date":"2007-05-12T11:18:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-12T11:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abingdon.blog\/abingdon2007\/2007\/05\/12\/rose-tinted-spectacles\/"},"modified":"2007-05-12T11:18:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-12T11:18:00","slug":"rose-tinted-spectacles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/?p=1135","title":{"rendered":"Rose-tinted spectacles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently,  one of the town council candidates wrote in an election bulletin that &#8220;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Abingdon is  a vibrant, bustling town<\/span>.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heraldseries.net\/news\/hsletters\/display.var.1350925.0.rosetinted.php\">A letter<\/a> to the Abingdon Herald said the candidate &#8220;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">must wear rose-tinted spectacles<\/span>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heraldseries.net\/news\/hsletters\/display.var.1386406.0.look_again.php\">The candidate replied<\/a> &#8220;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">As the laboratory manager for an independent local optician, I pride myself on my ability to tint quality prescription lenses. I don&#8217;t wear rose-tinted sunglasses: for spring, I like light brown.<\/span>&#8221; He went on to say &#8221; <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Abingdon is no ghost town. It&#8217;s alive and it has a healthy heart<\/span>.&#8221; Now somebody has left a comment &#8221; <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Healthy Heart maybe but all the arteries are blocked<\/span>.&#8221;<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/images\/07051208.jpg\" \/><br \/>Anyway, now for an experiment, can I ask you to look at the picture above of a tree in St Helens Court, first without spectacles.<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abingdonblog.co.uk\/images\/07051209.jpg\" \/><br \/>Now look at it with rose-tinted spectacles, and you will see a deep fissure up the side. The bark and trunk has split and the tree is dieing on this near side.
