Today was armed forces day and last post was played by Alison Rich.

Our MP, Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, and Chair of the Vale were there as part of the ceremony. (Thanks to David for the first picture. )

Various other towns celebrated Armed Forces Day in a bigger way today, but Abingdon’s chance comes next Saturday with Armed Forces Open Day at Dalton Barracks.

Return from Afghanistan Medal Parade

Freedom and Medal Ceremony
Around 320 soldiers from the 12th Logistic Support Regiment based in Dalton Barracks, Abingdon held a medal parade in Abingdon to mark the return of all elements of the Regiment from Helmand Province in Southern Afghanistan.

Mr Tim Stevenson, the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, gave out medals and made a short address.

The troops then marched through the town centre led by the Band of the Logistics Corps before attending a church service at St Helens.
