Happy New Year

A picture of the sun rising on year 2010 seen from the Abbey Meadows in Abingdon at about 8:25 AM.

The strange lights seen by many drifting across the sky at 12:30 AM, after the New Year's Party, were not an invasion of Triffids, as first supposed, but instead were little candle-lit hot air balloons.

What a lovely picture. Thanks Backstreeter for continuing to remind us that, despite all the problems we do live in a lovely town, by a beautiful river and with a lot going for it. Happy new year to you and all your readers - onwards and upwards for 2010!

I live on the road leading to the meadows and often snap the river.

I was in north Manchester at New Year and my mother's flat looks out to the south over the city and there were loads of those 'lanterns', though they seemed quite big to me.
