Kudos to my oldest son, who was brave enough to go on storm.

I managed the dodgem cars with my youngest son. Even then he enjoyed it more than me.

Time for cocoa and slippers, I fear....

There's always someone to put a downer on others enjoying themselves and this time its me! I'm fed up with the disruption caused by the fair and I shudder to think how much of our Council Tax is wasted on an event that serves no purpose other than lining the pockets of showmen. Any claim to tradition or heritage is a joke, the modern fair has no association with the original fair other than location.
I have no problem with having a fair at all but why must it be held in the town centre? Stick it in a field by the Thames and be done with it!

Abingdon people are not put out by the fair because Abingdon people live and work in the town and dont flea to spend money out of town. Sod the commuters! They can admire the thames from their traffic jam instead of Ock street for a change! Ock street families love the fair because generations of their families have grown up with generations of the showmens families. If your REALLY from Abingdon you will feel that its part of your town and what you are. But then if your not really from Abingdon you have no ties here and can move on but dont take our fair away on your one generation visit to our town! You could go to Blackpool but i guess you'd moan about the lights! Maybe London? Oh no you wouldnt like the marathon. I bet all these helicopters drive you mad dont they? Oh lets stop the church bells while your at it!
