Signs of Autumn

Thanks to Pat for this picture of some fungi growing in a rotten tree in the Abbey Fish Pond nature reserve off Radley Road. It is the sort of fungi I would NOT eat without expert advice. So anybody know what it is, and how it got to be so big.

There was a chill in the air tonight.

Blog Action Day is a yearly event when bloggers try to do a blog on the same topic - world wide. The day this year is October 15th. The URL to register is . This year the topic is climate change. I will try to think of something in Abingdon...

It looks like a Hen of the Woods--Grifola Frondosa. If you can get a positive ID, quick cook it up. They are supposed to be tasty.

I didn't know about blog action day, but now that I do, am going to sign up. I think I'd like to post a series of pictures and say something about how everything we know and love will change with global warming and it will be gone forever. I think I should keep it simple. Im open to ideas though.

Thanks Christine. Long Time No See. I have no real ideas yet. I have heard tell we are getting new species from warmer lands but am not that likely to find one before next week unless somebody out there sends me a picture.

Climate change in Abingdon... work of Abingdon Carbon Cutters? contribution to climate change by Didcot powerstation? lower summer rainfall expected, but increased likelihood of severe storms leading to flash flooding?

I've been working in a garden center selling lots and lots of chemicals to make lawns and gardens perfect. With winter coming there is a lot less of that going on, so I have more time now. If I could change one thing for a greener world, it would be to convince people that perfect lawns are completely artificial. Of course that leaves me and my dandelions off the hook, which I don't mind at all.
