History of The Pub

Has anybody out there any more they can add to the history of the pub.

I did go inside to ask whether there were any interesting historical features I could photograph...

and was told the building was the real history.

dont think that pub is big on old things - given that half their clientele dont seem to even be 18 yet!

There is a good book called Inns and Alehouses of Abingdon by Jacqueline Smith that covers the history of pubs in Abingdon from 1550 until recent times.

I was going to look up the Nags Head in it, but unfortunately I seem to have temporarily mislaid my copy, which the book shop in the precinct got for me a few years ago.

I can't help further back than the early '80s (1980s that is)when it was lovely on hot summer nights, even to a case of skinny dipping once into the Thames from the garden. I spent many an evening there with the various Mrs Anonymous' of the time. I remember it always had an 'under 18' reputation.
On my infrequent visits back to my town of birth I note has been 'renovated' into a gastro-slop diner more than a pub.

A wonderful blog, I left many dreams, memories and despairs in Abingdon. It's good to keep in some sort of touch from a distance. Thank you very much This Abingdon
