Sovereign Vale

These are the Offices of the Vale Housing Association in the Vineyard. They manage the social housing that used to belong to the Vale of White Horse District Council.

Over recent days I have noticed that vehicles and offices have begun showing the Sovereign Vale sign.

In 2008 members of the Vale Housing Association voted to join the Sovereign Housing Group, and become part of a larger group with more influence and economies of scale.

I don't remember anyone asking me to vote on the amalgamation of the two Housing Associations? Maybe the directors decided this amongst themselves.

The shareholders voted on the change. If I remember correctly, any tenant can become a shareholder for £1 and them vote at the AGM. Of course, at the time everyone was told Vale Housing would keep it's identity.

Not so sure about the economies of scale though - when I worked there in a fairly senior role, Vale performed better according to the regulators stats, and when comparing purchasing power immediately prior to the merger, we were already getting far better pricing than Sovereign could. As far as I could see, there was no real upside to the deal :-(
